As new members join the PLANC Board, it is important that you be provided with information to enable you to join the on-going conversation as quickly as possible. The hope is that after reviewing this material, each new member will feel more comfortable with how the board functions. Our aim is to help each member contribute as much as possible to our joint endeavor.
To begin with, you should read the Board's Statement of Purpose and Plan of Organization.
Next, you should read the minutes of at least a few of the most recent Board meetings.
The PLANC Board has only twelve voting members--a President and a Designated Member from each of the six regional APLAs. However, we also have a variety of "Partners" who attend the Board meetings. In addition to providing us with timely and useful information, they help us advance our common interests. It is important for a new member of the board to become familiar with the mission and activities of each of our partners. Accordingly, you should visit:
Next, you should read over the most recent edition of Planc Points (adobe file)
Next, you should glance at what we did during our most recent national conference.
Next, it is important that you have some familiarity with each of the APLA's. The easiest way to acheive this is to: visit their web sites, read their Constitutions, scan their most recent newsletters, glance at the material from their most recent conference, and read over the statistics relating to their membership.
