PLANC Conference Action Team

The PLANC Conference Planning Team is soliciting assistance from conference attendees to help us pull off a great meeting in Chicago! Members of the Conference Action Team will be assigned to help in various capacities as needed throughout the conference, and will serve to assist the meeting planners and meeting attendees throughout the days of the conference. It is also a great way to network and get to know some of your fellow conference attendees! The deadline to sign up to volunteer is Friday, May 20. Please see below for descriptions of the Conference Subcommittees that will need assistance:

Featured Speakers

PLANC is fortunate to have a number of distinguished speakers at this year’s conference in our plenary sessions. Volunteers for this committee will be responsible for ensuring that conference speakers arrive to their respective speaking appointments on time and to facilitate any needs of the speakers while they are at the conference.

Local Arrangements

This Local Arrangements Committee is responsible for coordinating the movement of conference attendees around the city through bus transportation and walking to some destinations as we visit the six Chicago-area law schools. Bus captains and walking guides will be needed for each of the 3 days that the conference leaves the Palmer House.

The Conference Registration Committee coordinates all aspects of the registration process prior to and upon arrival of conference registrants. Registration volunteers are needed throughout the first day of the conference, Tuesday, June 7, to help welcome everyone to Chicago.

Site Logistics

This Committee is responsible for ensuring a smooth experience for conference attendees while the conference is onsite at the Palmer House Hotel. We are looking for 15-20 volunteers to assist in staffing our onsite hospitality station and support the two main onsite hotel events, the Law School Networking Mixer on Thursday afternoon and the Closing Reception on Friday night. Volunteers for this committee will also staff session rooms during the concurrent sessions being held at the Palmer House on Thursday, June 9, to ensure that presentations begin and end on time.

Participation Guidelines

To sign up as a member of the Conference Action Team, please read the following guidelines for participation and then complete the online form at the link below:

  • Only those who are registered for the conference may sign up for a volunteer slot.
  • Volunteers will be assigned on a shift basis for most tasks. There will be multiple shifts each day, dependent upon the conference schedule. You may volunteer for more than one slot if you choose, but no one will be assigned to more than two slots during the conference. This is done to allow time for volunteers to participate actively in conference programming.
  • While you may submit a committee preference for volunteering, all volunteers scheduled on a given day should be prepared to work where assistance is needed.
  • All team members will be required to attend a mandatory team meeting on the day(s) that they are assigned to volunteer. These meetings will be held at 7:00 a.m. each day in the Exhibit Hall at the Palmer House Hotel to go over daily logistics and any pertinent announcements from the conference planners. Those team members not staying at the Palmer House will need to account for additional time in their morning schedules to accommodate attending this meeting.
