1971-1975 Private Practice with the law firm of Lewis and Roca in Phoenix. Partner 1973-1975. Substantial work in the fileds of appeals, labor law and construction.
1975-1979. Judge, Arizona Court of Appeals, Phoenix, Arizona. The Arizona Court of Appeals has jurisdiction over all civil and nearly all criminal appeals from the Arizona trial courts. Appointed by Governor Raul Castro as the first Court of Appeals appointment under Arizona's merit system for selection of appellate judges.
October 1979 to Present. United States Circuit Judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Appointed by President Carter.
Teaching Experience:
Taught courses as visiting instructor, Arizona State University Law School in advanced civil proceedure (1975), appellate advocacy(1976), and discovery(1978). Received from that law school Arizona State University's distinguished achievement award (1977).
Currently adjunct lecturer at Duke University.
